W.K.C. (August) Championship Show 2018 Critique

I realise that exhibitors must have been very disappointed to have a replacement for Liz Cartledge, and of course, it is a tall order to try to step into those shoes, but my thanks for your sporting acceptance. I am sure you will all join me in wishing Liz a full and speedy recovery. The upside of the day was that I had the pleasure of a morning with one of my favourite breeds - elegant curves and symmetry - something very noble about them. I found plenty to like in the entry, but too many light eyes and narrow rears. However, to see the curving outlines and long strides was a real pleasure, along with those wonderful heads and expressions. Many thanks to my stewards, Bob and Irene Hernandez.

  VD (1)

1 Baumann’s Multi Ch Regalflight Tarloch. 10 yrs old, elegant outline with excellent shoulder and upper arm and wide thighs and low hocks which give him good stride. A little flat in topline now. Coat a touch soft. Lovely head and expression and perfect clean dentition.

  MPD (1)

1 Aston’s Balgaled Arlan. 7 mths. Shapely puppy with good leg length, strong bone, some arch over the loin and a good coat, very good head and eye, good shoulder giving good stride in front, can firm up in rear, very promising. Best PD.

PD (1)

1 Steele & Pink’s Theon Of The Storm. 11 mths, tall dog who needs to drop in chest and fill out in middlepiece, fine head and good eyes, needs a little more angulation at both ends, can firm up on the move, looks a raw teenager at the moment.

JD (6, 1)

1 Peach’s Kilbourne Shrike. 17 mths, excellent movement, light and scopey and holds his good shape on the move, very good coat, well angulated at both ends, masculine quality head, eye could be a shade darker but he is full of quality, good leg length and excellent stride. Only immaturity held him back today.

2 Llewellyn’s Hunky Dory Bowie At Kilbourne TAF. 15 mths. Quality dog with some curve to his loin and good depth. I liked his head and eye, pasterns could be firmer, which shows in his front action, not as strong in rear as winner.

3 Steele & Tannant’s Greyhawks Romanie Lacho With Tannantside.

PGD (7)

1 Finnett & Heathcote’s Hyndsight On The Run. 23 mths. A tall, imposing dog with excellent bone, very good head, marred by an eye that could be darker. A touch over angulated in the rear but uses his hocks well. He moves with long stride but could have a little more confidence in his carriage.

2 Cummings’ Killoeter Tam Dubh. 22 mths, very good moving dog with good depth of body and excellent quarters, carries himself well. I preferred skull and shoulder of the winner but a close decision. He has lots of quality and type.

3 Smith’s Hyndsight Timespace At Julam.

LD (3, 2)

1 Baumann & Lucas’ Packway Loxley Norton. 2 yrs old, shapely dog with good leg length, fine head but eyes could be darker, good bone and feet, needs time to drop in chest and this is evident in his front action, carries himself well.

OD (7, 1)

1 COnstantine’s Ch Kaleginy The Forester ShCM. 3 yrs old, curvacious outline on the move and a lovely stride in front which won him this placing. Excellent head, he is a little wide in rear action but scored in arch of loin to win this and the CC.

2 Finnett & Heathcote’s Ch Hyndsight Desperado. 3 yrs old, lovely head and neck line. I preferred his rear action but his front movement was a little loose and he did not have the finish of chest of the winner. Full of quality. Res CC.

3 Peach’s Ch Rubeus Hagrid To Kilbourne.

VB (3)

1 Helps’ Beardswood Quintessence. 7 yrs, wonderful mover, clean long stride in front and really uses her hocks. Full of quality, in excellent coat. Fine head, eyes could be a shade darker, good ribbing, her croup is a little short but made an excellent picture going round. Good leg length, made the last four in the challenge. BV.

2 Seymour-Jackson’s Cassacre Aelfrida Of Ghiltan. 8 yrs old, shorter on the leg and carrying a heavy coat which took away from her lines, however, she is sound at both ends and scored on the move and in body shape to take this place.

3 Williams’ Kilbourne Wendela.

MPB (3, 2)

1 Bailey’s Greyflax Pearls A Singer. 7 mths, a beautiful puppy all through, curvy lines, light but strong movement, good coat and a beautiful head and dark eye. Has star quality. BP.

PB (3, 1)

1 Helps’ Beardswood Ulyssa. 11 mths, tall, leggy bitch with good head and eye and a good mover at both ends, she is carrying too much puppy fat which detracts from her outline, but won this on chest and rear action.

2 Wilkinson’s Ardlancien Halistra At Sireadh. 10 mths. Shapely and has more evident rise over the loin than the winner but she needs to drop in chest and firm up in her hocks, very good head and good coat, made a good picture in profile gait. At her first show and can come on well.

JB (9, 2) A lot of quality bitches in this class.

1 Abbott & Constantine’s Kaleginy Magnolia Steel. 17 mths, lovely bitch who floated round the ring on light easy strides. Lovely curves and good chest and topline, has an excellent head and dark eye, perhaps she could  have a little more leg for perfect balance but she impressed me a lot. Made last four in the challenge.

2 Barter’s Serenity In The Silence Of Ehlaradawn. 15 mths, very houndy with good leg length and lovely curves, carrying a little too much weight but should finish a lovely bitch, good strides and firm at both ends, scored in eye and ears to take this spot.

3 Barter’s Kilbourne Saffron At Ehlaradawn.

PGB (10, 2)

1 Constantine’s Kaleginy Antheia. 2 yrs old, lovely shape and light and easy movement, she needs to drop a little in chest and I’d prefer stronger feet but lovely breed type and headpiece, not yet fully mature in body but full of type.

LB (4)

1 Finnet & Heathcote’s Hyndsight In Your Dreams. 2 yrs old. Lovely bitch all through, curves without exaggeration and excellent stride on the move, full of quality, excellent coat, good head and eye and ears, good width in rear and strong hocks and long front stride. CC and BOB.

2 McKinnon’s CLaonaiglen Carron. 3 yrs, shapely bitch who moves well at both ends, she has an excellent curvy topline, not quite the chest of the winner but I liked her a lot. 3 Morton & Morgan’s Chuilinn Ballad.

OB (6, 3)

1 Morton, Morgan & Constantine’s Cotherstone Islay Mist At Kaleginy. 4 yr old, lovely shape and in excellent coat, can settle in her front action, scored in proportions of leg length to body to win this class. Could have a little more neck to set her off but I liked her a lot and awarded her the Res CC.

2 McKinnon’s Claonaiglen Collusca. 3 yrs, a very sound moving bitch who is a little low on the leg for balance but scored in chest and front action to take this place. Very houndy and carries herself well with a long stride. 3 Bailey’s Ch Greyflax Lady Sings The Blu’s.
